I had the perfect campsite in death valley over looking badwater basin. In the early afternoon I saw a dust storm building. Which isn’t that big of a deal. Over the next couple hours it moved south. All of the sudden it turned black and to my horror I saw a lightning strike not far off. It was actually a thunderstorm. It was time to run. I had up a large ham antenna and was terrified that it would attract lightning. I tried to take down my ham antenna but it fell apart in my hands with wires hanging everywhere. After much cursing and jiggling I got the mount back together so that I could drive without wires dragging in the dirt. I fled into the panamint hills and found shelter against a large hill before moving further into the hills.

At this point I saw the mines, looked in the rear view mirror and noticed that my mouth was actually open wider than the mineshafts. I decided to keep going and find a safe place for the night.

I found a safe place to spend the night at warm springs. Imagine my delight as I noticed that that most of the machinery appears to remain exactly where it was used. They mined talc here and its one of the few places where a profit was made.
